As a rookie team, the students faced many obstacles including a lack of mentors, sponsors, and knowledge.  The team struggled to purchase building materials; therefore, they were forced to use cheap alternatives and a lot of duct tape. If you were to ask any of the team's first year members to summarize their very first robot, their answer would be, “Duct tape and a prayer”. Another major obstacle that they faced was a lack of mentors to show the students how to use power tools or how to program the robot.  First-year member Tony Wise fondly remembers Ramageddon’s rookie year by sharing, “Our first year of robotics, we had no idea what we were doing.”  Despite a lack of knowledge for building, the team persevered and made it to the quarterfinals in both of their rookie-year competitions, earning various rookie awards
